Separatists ask Russia for annexation as Ukraine denounces Moscow

Russia’s foreign ministry says fresh sanctions will hinder efforts to defuse the crisis in Ukraine.

It wants western governments to persuade Kiev to hold talks on the future of the country before planned the presidential election on May 25th.

On Monday, pro-Russian activists in Luhanks and Donetsk declared the regions were now separate states which want to join the Russian Federation.

And in Moscow, separatists are pushing to be absorbed by Russia.
