President Obama has accepted the resignation of embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki.
Speaking at the White House, Mr Obama praised the retired Army general, but added that his continued presence would be a distraction as the probe into the VA scandal continued.
VA health clinics have been accused of falsifying records to hide systemic problems over waiting times and scheduling practices across the U.S.
The white House will now wait to announce a permanent replacement for Mr Shinseki.
