The British aid charity Oxfam has launched an emergency appeal to raise funds for South Sudan…. one of the world's newest countries which is struggling with the interwoven problems of conflict and the impending threat of famine.
Fighting which began at the end of last year between Dinka forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and his Deputy Riek Machar from the Nuer tribe, has forced over 1 million people to flee their homes just as the new harvest is due to be sown.
Oxfam says seven million people are at risk of not having enough to eat in the coming months and the situation is already desperate in some parts of the country. Catherine Drew reports on the efforts of the British charity.
