CUT1: Theresa May, Home Secretary, Leadership contender: "There should be no general election until 2020. There should be a normal Autumn Statement held in the normal way at the normal time and no emergency budget. And, there should be no decision to invoke Article 50 until the British negotiating strategy is agreed and clear which means Article 50 should not be invoked before the end of this year."
In a surprise move, the Justice Secretary Michael Gove - who was a prominent Leave campaigner - put his hat in the ring.
He was expected to back former London mayor Boris Johnson's bid - but Gove said Boris "cannot provide the leadership or build the team for the task ahead"...
And then, with just minutes to go till the nomination deadline ended, in what was expected to be Boris's candidacy announcement, a shock...
CUT2: Boris Johnson MP: "Having consulted colleagues and in view of the circumstances in parliament, I have concluded that person cannot be me. By role will be to give every possible support to the next Conservative administration"
Experts including Inderjeet Parmar from City University London says Boris' staunch anti-EU campaigning may have cost him dearly...
CUT3: Inderjeet Parmar, City University London: "He has been the person who put the knife in to the Conservative Party and to David Cameron. And the person who puts the knife in rarely ever gets to be the leader of the party thereafter."
VO: Other nominees include Work and Pension Secretary Stephen Crabb and former Defence Secretary Liam Fox and MP Andrea Leadsom.
One of those contenders will win the battle to get the keys to Downing Street.
Once they're inside they face an even bigger challenge.
