The stage is set in the United States for Hillary Clinton finally to claim that she has won the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination.
Primary contests take place on Tuesday in 5 states, including California - the largest outstanding prize in the battle between Mrs. Clinton and Bernie Sanders, the socialist Senator from Vermont.
So can she do well enough in the next few hours to put the Bernie Sanders challenge behind her?

Hillary Clinton finds herself in an extraordinary position.
Who would have imagined, 12 months ago, that this late in America's Presidential primary process, she still wouldn't have sealed the deal and convincingly won the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination.
But for weeks now, Bernie Sanders - the socialist Senator from Vermont - has been nipping at her heels….winning primary contests that on paper she should romped and challenging her claim to lead the Party into November.
It's been hard work - you can hear that in Bernie Sanders' raspy voice, as he tries to deny that he's reaching the end of the road.

But for Bernie Sanders, reality may only be one dawn away.
That's certainly what Hillary Clinton is counting on.
Her hope: that she does well enough in New Jersey, not far from her campaign headquarters in Brooklyn, that she will officially be able to claim she is unstoppable in her quest to secure the nomination.
In California on Monday she was exuding confidence, but counting no chickens.

When it's over….there is speculation that Barack Obama will not hesitate publicly to endorse Hillary Clinton for the Presidency….perhaps before the end of the week.
He's said to be frustrated by the fact that Bernie Sanders has stayed in the race for so long…and Mrs. Clinton certainly sounds like a woman eager to secure a public declaration of Presidential support.

There is still the not insignificant matter of how Mrs. Clinton will secure the support of Bernie Sanders' voters…many of whom have expressed deep personal animus towards her on the campaign trail.
But it may be that she faces and easier calculus uniting the Democratic Party around her candidacy than Donald Trump faces on the Republican side.

But, as both of them insist, the next 24 hours will be critical.
And an election campaign that has never short-changed on surprise…could deliver another one.
If it doesn't, Hillary Clinton may finally put her unexpectedly tortuous path to the Democratic Presidential nomination behind her….and become the first woman ever to be a major party's standard bearer in the race for the White House.
