Nuclear talks with Iran wrap up in Vienna

Talks in Vienna on Iran's nuclear program between Iranian officials and six world powers has now wrapped.

Officials say they've begun drafting a rough accord but big issues are yet to be reconciled like the number of uranium enriching centrifuges Iran has to give up and how rapidly western nations will want to lift economic sanctions.

And with 5 weeks to go before a final deadline to reach a deal, there is skepticism that either side will compromise on their positions.

With a deadline looming to reach an international agreement on Iran's nuclear program talks between Iranian officials, the US, UK, Germany France, China and Russia saw some progress… negotiators have so far agreed on a framework for a final draft to ensure Tehran cannot build a nuclear weapon.

But Iranian officials on Friday said huge blanks remain, and the text contains more questions than answers. Key issues like reducing Iran's stockpile of 19,000 centrifuges which Washington wants to reduce to the low thousands. An effort to ensure Iran is unable to quickly enrich it's uranium capacity long after a deal is done. But Tehran is not prepared to drastically reduce it's nuclear capabilities and wants to see countries lift sanctions quickly. On Friday, a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran is complying with its end of a December deal that saw some sanctions relaxed in exchange for Iran cutting back levels of uranium enrichment. Abas Aslani - General Director Iranian News Agency says the success of that deal is a positive sign for talks moving forward.

With only 5 weeks to go until a July 20 deadline, negotiators are edging closer to confronting the bigger more divisive issues. The next time they meet in early July will be a real test of political will to compromise in order to finally reach a deal. Sign off.
