London is one of the fashion capitals of the world…
And each year the annual Africa Fashion Week London brings a little bit of the continent to the UK.
Filled with brants from Africa and the diaspora, the show gives designers a chance to display their work both on the catwalk and in their pop-up stalls.
And according to the event organising team, it also helps brands to grow a european following Here's Dami Solar Sujani and Joanna Ojernola.
"Diverse of culture you know, you get all sorts of people coming here just to get to see what Africa is all about. There's so much talent that isn't internationally recongised and I feel like the prints and the actual clothing it needs to become mainstream really."
Flying in for the show this year, South African brand Ledikana. It's their second year attending and selling their designs.
Matsela Moshokoa, Ladikana's head creative say there are major advantages to attending the event.
"This time we came a little more prepared than last year, so we've got a lot more things to showcase, South African made products, hand made from artisans back home and we also deal with our traditional fabric."
But developing the contacts they make in London once back in Johannesburg still presents some challenges.
"We also need high-speed internet, internet is still very expensive back home and I think those kind of things, they help. We're on social media platforms, people call you just from seeing a post on instagram and you need to know how to ship the stuff to them quickly."
Joanne Ojerinola, the exhibition manager at Africa Fashion Week London believes
UK demand for african-inspired fashion is high and it's this that makes the show a success.
"The prints are beautiful, I come here every year to stock up on my clothing, as I said you can't really get it everywhere, it's so unique and just amazing looking."
So while the sales made here are important, the main focus for brands attending Africa fashion week London, is to be able to get their designs out to and see by a global audience, and that's a major pull to exhibit at the show.
