The Republican US Presidential candidates have set the name-calling aside and focused on policies in the latest televised debate.
It was a friendlier affair that saw the final four spar over immigration, education, Islam and the Middle East peace process.
The debate in Miami is the last big test before the winner-takes-all primaries of Florida and Ohio on Tuesday.

A quieter affair, that was more family friendly than fireworks.
After several debates filled with shouting, bullying, even sexual innuendo, the candidates this time focused more on policies.
From the start, rather than taking aim at his opponents frontrunner Donald Trump urged the party to unite behind him.

Going into this Trump had promised a softer side. After a week of bruising criticism about his combative style in previous debates, this was his chance to seem more Presidential.
Gone was the sneering, the jeering, and the snide remarks, making for a much more substantive debate.
Perhaps the most quarrelsome moment came between Rubio and Trump over Islam, with Trump defendeding a comment he made in recent days, saying Islam hates America.

While Rubio noted such comments have consequences.

Yet on some foreign policy issues, Trump struck a more moderate note. While Rubio lambasted the normalization of US-Cuba relations, Trump stuck up for a wait-and-see approach. And amid strong pro-Israel voices Trump said if President he would remain neutral in the Middle East peace process.
With the acrimonious attitudes gone, the passion this time was very much in the politics.
The other 3 candidates, all with long records in Congress, unlike untested Trump, were visibly on firmer political ground and seemed better able to out-talk Trump.
Placing a distant third, and running out of time, Rubio knows it's now do or die.

Because for him, just round the corner, is the winner-takes-all primaries in Florida and Ohio.
Rubio hopes to win his home state of Florida - John Kasich to do the same on his home turf of Ohio.
Wins would blunt Trump, making his nomination less certain.
A loss for either of them could spell the end of their campaigns.
For now the final four battle on. Friday holds an upcoming endorsement for Trump from former rival Ben Carson.
With this debate over, the candidates seeming to have listened to their party's calls for a more civil debate amid the ongoing civil war.
