US presidential candidates campaign in New York

INTRO:
The presidential race continues in New York city this week. US Presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have been campaigning across New York ahead of this month's decisive state election.

Both Clinton and Sanders who hold historical ties with the region have criticized Republican opponent Donald Trump's inflammatory remarks this week about abortion.
US correspondent Laura Cantekin reports from New York.

New York native, Bernie Sanders, hit the campaign trail this week in the Big Apple, hoping New Yorkers could take him to the presidency.

He's hoping to cause an upset, by beating his Democrat rival Hillary Clinton, also on home turf.

As a former New York Senator she's anticipated to win. So is instead setting her sights on the Republican front runner, Donald Trump.

He caused controversy this week by saying women should be punished for having abortions. Something Clinton said was an indication of his true character.

The billionaire businessman has had a tough week - criticism over his flip-flopping ideas on abortion, his campaign manager being charged with assault, and dropping popularity figures.

He also said he would not support any Republican candidate expect himself - leading to a meeting to mend relations with the head of the Republican National Committee.

All the candidates know the New York primary could be a deciding moment in the race for the White House.
