Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton scored big wins in the New York Primary, edging them closer to winning the Republican and Democrat nominations.
Both candidates claimed a home state advantage and played on their strong ties to New York.

It seems he's positioning himself as a more credible candidate - calmer than the bombastic bully from earlier in the campaign.

He consolidated his position as the state favorite by playing up a jibe from rival Ted Cruz who accused him of having negative "New York Values".

Hillary Clinton's competition Bernie Sanders played the local boy card, emphasizing his Brooklyn born-and-bred history, but omitting the fact he moved away when he was 18.
But those New York roots didn't blossom into strong enough support.
Now, with New York behind them, both Trump and Clinton seem to want to draw a line under the whole nomination process.

Trump believes he can get the magic number of 1237 delegates - the number needed to become the Republican nominee.
A big win in New York suggests he could be right.
And Hillary knows she needs to win over Bernie's supporters, to unite her party before the November election.

Next Tuesday their positions could become even stronger, when 5 north east states pick their candidates.
