The British government is now proposing a substantial increase in the payment the UK will make to Brussels to finance the country's exit from the European Union.
Prime Minister Theresa May's Cabinet has agreed to spend up to 40 billion pounds sterling in a bid to break the current deadlock in negotiations.
Peter Foster, Europe Editor with Britain's Daily Telegraph says the response from Brussels is not likely to be positive.
