European and Chinese leaders are reaffirming their commitment to the Paris Climate change agreement after the US administration announced it's pulling out.
They've been holding a summit in Brussels and have announced 100 billion dollars a year in support for poorer nations to fight global warming.

The headquarters of Boyden's engineering here in Brussels is a net zero emissions building.
That means it doesn't use more energy than it produces.
And the firm designs buildings like this one all over the world.
Once a traditional structural engineering business, when Wim Boydens took over the company from his father - he decided it would go green.

"If we go towards business as usual we would make a larger economic profit. So it's really a choice to say 'OK, that's not the only thing in life.' There are next generations, not only our children, but others too. So it's really a social responsibility you could say that is implanted in our own souls."

But while this building is heated and cooled by 38 boreholes dug 90 meters deep under the carpark outside - the US administration under Donald Trump wants to re-invigorate the coal extraction industry in the United States.
It's pne of the reason he's ditched the Paris climate change agreement which aims to limit global warming to 2 degrees celcius on pre-industrial levels.

At a summit of EU and Chinese leaders in Brussels coming straight after the announcement, the two world powers unlocked 100 billion dollars per year to tackle climate change in poorer countries.
They also shot down the idea of any renegotiation of the Paris deal.

China is the world's biggest emitter of greenhouse gases. But at this summit, it's declared it will lead on the fight against climate change and fill the void left by the United States' departure. And that's a shift that's likely to have a far-reaching impact politically and economically for many years to come.
