Police name suspect in London terror attack

The Islamic state has claimed responsibility for a terrorist attack near the U.K. parliament in which one police officer and two members of the public were killed.

The assailant , named by police as 52 year old Khalid Masood, was born in the UK and known to MI5, but described as being on the periphery of their investigations.

It's believed he acted alone, ploughing a car into pedestrians and attempting to enter the parliament building, before he was shot dead by police.

Life in the capital is now returning to normal, as our UK correspondent Natalie Powell  reports

There's a heavy police presence surrounding London and in particular the Westminster area where the attack took place.

Police investigations are still underway though roads in the area surrounds parliament have been reopening and daily life is slowing returning to normal.

Many tourists and locals have been shocked by the events, but the security presence is making them feel safe

TAKE VOXES

This defiance from Londoners and visitors alike, has been echoed by the British Prime Minister, Theresa May.

GRAB: THERESA MAY, UK PRIME MINISTER

"To the men and women who propagate this evil you will not defeat us….our values will prevail

A number Tributes have been paid to the murdered police officer, 48 year old Keith Palmer, a regular police officer in Parliament, he's been described as a hero.

The Metropolitan Police have now named the suspect who was shot dead at the scene as Khaleed Masood

He was known to the authorities for previous convictions, such as possession of offensive weapons, but was not subject to current investigations and had not been convicted of any terrorism related offences

The UK's terror threat level remains at severe, meaning an attack is highly likely - but the government says another attack is not imminent

And despite an  increased police presence, London life is beginning to return to normal.

There's an air of resilience in this capital city, following the worst terror attack London has seen for 12 years.
