{INTRO} Angela Merkel seems to have emerged unscathed following her first visit to the Trump White House. The German Chancellor even managed to keep open the possibility of a new US trade deal through the European Union. Donald Trump missed a cue from her for a warm handshake before the cameras, but he was cordial to his guest. This was the same leader he had repeatedly lambasted last year on the campaign trail. During the joint press conference though, he refused a chance to apologize to Britain over some wild conspiracy theories about British agents wire-tapping Trump Tower.
