Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee for US President after his closes rival Ted Cruz dropped out of the race.
He will almost certainly face Democrat Hillary Clinton in the general election, who has a commanding delegate lead over her nearest challenger Bernie Sanders.

Donald Trump started his presidential campaign in a crowded field of seventeen Republican candidates.
As his stature grew, the Republican establishment threw everything at Trump in at attempt to derail his campaign.

Ultimately, they failed. In the past year he has obliterated his rivals and now finds himself the presumptive GOP nominee.
It's still a long way to go until the general election in November, but early indications are that Trump faces an uphill battle against Hillary Clinton.
Many polls show Trump trailing Clinton by as many as ten percentage points in national surveys.
So what's Trump's biggest problem?

Donald Trump has alienated large swathes of the American electorate. Polls suggest nearly two thirds of the electorate views him unfavourably.
He performs particularly badly amongst women, young, non-white, and well-educated voters.
Hillary Clinton has deep support in these groups and her election team will be preparing for an onslaught from Trump. As a former first lady, senator and secretary of state, she is the ultimate establishment candidate.
And in an election of anti-establishment successes, her road to the White House surely has many twists and turns yet.
