Two suspects believed responsible for a shooting spree at a social services center in California that left 14 people dead have themselves been killed by police.
A man and a woman carrying assault rifles were shot dead after a high speed chase.
A third person has been taken into custody, but police say they're unclear whether he was involved in the assault.
The shootings have caused shock across the United States, and led President Obama to reiterate his call for tighter laws on gun control.

Even by the standards of those of us jaded from covering gun violence for years in the United States, Wednesday's attack in San Bernardino brought the country to a new low.
A holiday party at a social services center that caters for children with developmental disabilities was the latest target of attackers bearing rifles and handguns.
Kathy Hotetz's sister was caught in the crossfire.

After the attackers fled, police moved in.
Witnesses told them at least 3 people were responsible for the shooting.
Scores of survivors inside the building were ordered to put their hands up and slowly make their way to safety…..guided all the way by local sheriffs.

The police found several suspicious items at the center including at least one they say contained explosives.
They also found 14 dead bodies…and several people seriously wounded who were transported Loma Linda Medical Center nearby.

And then more drama in San Bernardino.
A high speed police chase after police raided a house in a nearby suburb.

The chase was accompanied by a substantial exchange of gunfire recorded on a neighbor's cellphone.
By the time a black sports utility vehicle was surrounded and stopped by police, two people inside it - dressed in military fatigues and armed the hit - were dead.

He would not be drawn on reports that a disagreement at a holiday party taking place at the social center may have led to the attack.
It's known at least one person left the party after an argument - but the police say they don't yet know if he returned, accompanied by others, and opened fire.
It's also not clear whether all those responsible for the attack are now accounted for.
But at the White House, it was all enough for President Obama to repeat his call for America finally to embrace gun control.

But it does happen here now with extraordinary frequency.
And still there is no political consensus on how to stop it from taking place again soon.
