The Obama administration has announced an additional $500 million to fund humanitarian relief efforts for the millions impacted by the 3-year long civil war in Syria and the spreading violence in Iraq.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry made the announcement in Ankara, Turkey, as he travels the region, hoping to gather support for American efforts to counter the Islamic State fighters.
In Turkey, Secretary Kerry said that even with the large donation by the United States, the humanitarian response to the Syrian crisis remains largely underfunded.
