Trump dominates in first US Republican Presidential debate

The top ten US Republican Presidential candidates has been slugging it
out in the first debate.

Billionaire tycoon and TV reality star Donald Trump, who went into it
leading in the polls, was strongly attacked by his rivals.

The top ten candidates according to popular opinion polls got a prime
time slot to air their views....and grievances.

10 candidates - 1 job. It was always going to be a fight.
And coming out swinging was Bombastic billionaire Donald Trump who put
his considerable money where his mouth is.
Drawing boos straight off the bat when he refused to rule out going on
to run as an independent candidate should he not get the Republican
nomination.

TRUMP 1

And with that it became just what everyone was expecting - Trump vs
everyone else.
He went into the evening saying he had a bullseye painted on him - and
the candidates were certainly quick to go on the attack, with Kentucky
Senator Rand Paul leading the charge.

Trump was as belligerent as expected - picking a fight with not just
the candidates, but with one of the moderates.
Presenter Megyn Kelly took him to task on his comments about women.

Only for him to say he didn't have time for total political
correctness - and follow it up with some strangely threatening
language.

TRUMP 2

The expected topics of immigration, Iran, terrorism, abortion and the
economy dominated
Jeb Bush - 2nd in the polls - struggled to make his voice heard in
this crowded field.
But as the brother and son and 2 former commanders in chief, he came
across as more Presidential than Donald trump - something Bush played
on.

Before this prime time debate - the other 7, less popular candidates
got to have their say. The Republican's only female former Hewlett
Packard boss Carly Fiorina, proving herself to be calm and collected.
Which may help - as it's not always those that make the most noise

But the headline writers are not. Trump it seems triumphed.
In America, where politics can sometimes seem like a game show - the
man made for TV dominated with his showman's performance.
