New York rolls out plastic bag ban

A ban on single-use plastic bags has come into effect in New York.

Similar policies are already in effect across a number of major cities
around the world and New York is joining a handful of other states in
the U.S. to impose such a move.

Advocates of the ban hope the move will spark a wider change in the
public's relationship with plastic.
