UGANDA JOINS INTERNATIONAL EFFORT TO CONTAIN EBOLA IN W.AFRICA

Uganda has joined the international effort to help West Africa contain ebola.

It's sent a team of experts to the countries struggling with the virus.

The World Health Organisation says it's making a "significant" contribution.

VO1 About 20 Ugandan health practitioners have been deployed 

- to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The World Health Organisation says they've made a remarkable difference.

SOT1 : DR SOLOMON FISSEHA - OFFICER IN CHARGE, WHO UGANDA.

 

"I think there is significant improvement at this stage because a lot is being done to educate the community and let them know what is being done because if there is an outbreak for the first time there is always panic and frustration and communities can associate the disease to various things."

VO2 The WHO says most of the outbreak's victims are poor people - 

who had little idea how to protect themselves.

VO3 Uganda's ministry of health says its team is trying to educate local communities.

'And all that we are doing is to help them build up the health system, make sure there is community awareness, make sure that they have good coordination, resources, committees, making sure that people do not touch bodies and all these is what they are lucking."

VO4 Uganda has had several outbreaks previously,

and experts say the country is skilled at containing the virus.
